Rødovre Driver Sentenced for Falsely Claiming Father Was Speeding

A 52-year-old man from Rødovre has been sentenced to ten days in prison, suspended, for falsely claiming his 85-year-old father was driving when he was caught speeding. The Glostrup Court made the ruling on Tuesday, adding a criminal charge to the original traffic violation.

The incident began when the man exceeded the speed limit by 30 percent on a road in Rødovre. An automatic traffic control (ATK) vehicle documented the offense with photographic evidence.

After receiving the speeding ticket, the man contacted the police and alleged that his father was behind the wheel at the time. This attempt to evade responsibility led Copenhagen West Police to charge him with violating the penal code.

The sentence handed down by the court includes punishment for both the false statement and the initial speeding offense, for which he received a standard fine.
