Denmark Introduces Digital Therapy Courses for Faster Mental Health Treatment

Digital therapy courses will be available in all Danish municipalities and regions by 2028, offering faster access to mental health treatment. The new treatment platform is designed for patients experiencing distress, or mild to moderate anxiety and depression.

Region Syddanmark will develop the digital treatment platform. The courses will be 100 percent digital, including preventative and treatment options.

According to Marie Paldam Folker, head of department at the Center for Digital Psychiatry, digital offerings will allow treatment to begin sooner, eliminating the need for lengthy waiting lists. The courses will be free of charge.

The digital courses will incorporate exercises to help patients become aware of their thoughts, feelings, actions, and patterns, as well as assist them in setting goals for change. The courses will use text and video, adaptable to individual patient needs, and provide opportunities for written feedback and guidance from a psychologist.
