Vandalism and Theft of Election Posters Reported Across the Country

Sixty-seven reports of vandalism or theft of election posters have been filed with police districts nationwide as of Wednesday. These incidents occurred after municipal and regional election posters were displayed on October 25, according to figures obtained by Ritzau from the National Police.

The majority of the reports, 54 in total, concern vandalism, with one report classified as gross vandalism and another as vandalism under aggravating circumstances. There have also been 11 reports of stolen election posters.

East Jutland has the highest number of reported incidents, with 12 cases of vandalism or theft. Copenhagen’s Western Suburbs follow with 11 reports. In contrast, Bornholm has not reported any incidents.

On Tuesday, a man in his 40s was arrested and charged with vandalism for tearing down 300 election posters in Albertslund. The posters were recovered from his home and returned to Albertslund Town Hall.

In mid-October, the National Police announced increased efforts to combat harassment and threats related to the upcoming municipal elections on November 18. A nationwide registration of criminal behavior targeting public debate participants has been initiated. This registration includes the removal and destruction of election posters. The Police’s Online Patrol is also monitoring online forums to prevent criminal harassment and threatening behavior. The National Police’s data covers the period from October 4 to 29 and is sourced from the police’s case management system.
