A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to indefinite placement in a psychiatric ward for attempting to murder his parents in Odense last year. The sentence was handed down by the Court of Odense on Friday.
The attempted murder occurred on the afternoon of July 5 at a bonfire hut in Odense. The man stabbed his mother in the neck and then attacked his father with the knife, stabbing him in the back.
His parents were able to stop the attack after the mother struck him in the head with a stone.
A mental examination determined that the 26-year-old was insane at the time of the crime. The Medico-Legal Council assessed that he is unsuitable for any punishment other than placement in a psychiatric ward indefinitely.
Prior to the attempted murder, the 26-year-old had been admitted to a psychiatric ward, where he also displayed violent behavior. He was previously convicted of attempting to attack an employee at the ward with a knife on Christmas Eve in 2023.
The 26-year-old accepted the sentence.
